Why waxing beats shaving on the Bukit

Hard wax Brazilian waxing in Uluwatu, Bali

Shaving in Bali gives you about a day and a half. Then stubble, then bumps — because you’re going straight from a razor into salt water, sand, sunscreen and heat, which is a perfect recipe for irritation and ingrowns.

Waxing removes the hair at the root. No shadow, no stubble line, no next-morning rash. Regrowth comes back finer and sparser each time, so by your third or fourth wax the whole thing is quicker and easier.

And the practical version: one appointment covers Padang Padang, Balangan, Melasti, Dreamland, three sunsets at Uluwatu and a Sunday at Single Fin — without a single 6am shower panic.

Experienced therapists — you're not someone's practice run

Waxing salon near Bingin Beach, Uluwatu

This is the part that actually matters, and it’s the part most salons on the Bukit gloss over.

Every therapist doing intimate waxing at Rika is trained in-house — technique, skin-stretching, hair-growth direction, wax temperature and hygiene — and works alongside a senior therapist before she ever works on a guest alone. Our therapists do Brazilians every single day, all season.

That’s why ours are quick. Speed doesn’t come from rushing; it comes from knowing exactly where to place the wax and how to pull. A confident, experienced hand is genuinely less painful than a hesitant one.

It also means nothing about you is new to us. Every hair type, every skin tone, every level of growth, first-timers, guests coming off ten years of shaving, guests who had a bad experience somewhere else and are nervous about trying again. Nobody comments. Nobody reacts. It’s a Tuesday.

Female therapists as standard. Just ask when you book if you have a preference.

What actually happens, step by step

The not-knowing is the worst part, so here it is plainly.

1. Private room, door closed

One therapist. We hand you a towel and step out while you undress from the waist down.

2. You choose the finish

“Brazilian” means everything, front to back — but plenty of guests keep a strip or a triangle. Say so at the start; it’s a normal conversation.

3. Hard wax, not strip wax

Hard wax shrinks around the hair instead of gripping your skin. It’s warmed to skin temperature — comfortable, never hot — and it’s the only thing we use in intimate areas because it hurts significantly less.

4. New spatula, every single pass

We never double-dip. Fresh gloves, fresh bed roll, fresh everything, every guest. Non-negotiable, and the clearest difference between a proper salon and a cheap one.

5. Section by section.

Skin held taut, quick pulls. A few seconds each, then it’s done.

6. Soothing serum to finish

Pink for an hour or two, normal by evening.

Brazilian pricing depends on hair length and coverage. First wax after a long stretch of shaving? Expect the higher end. Your therapist confirms the price before starting — nothing changes at the till.

Best booking: Brazilian + Full Legs, Rp 600K. One appointment, four weeks handled, about the price of dinner for two in Uluwatu.

Timing it around your week

Bukit sunset in Uluwatu

Beach day at Bingin, Balangan, Padang Padang or Melasti? Wax two days before.

Sunday session at Single Fin, or a night at Savaya or Ulu Cliffhouse? Wax Friday.

Just landed for two weeks? Day two or three — then you’re covered for the whole trip.

Living here? Every three to four weeks, same therapist, and it becomes the easiest appointment in your calendar.

First Brazilian? Read this.

The first one is the most intense — a few seconds per section, and mostly over before your brain catches up. Hard wax and an experienced therapist make an enormous difference, and almost everyone says afterwards that they’d built it up to be far worse.

The second is noticeably gentler. By the third, most guests are on their phone through it.

You can take paracetamol half an hour beforehand if you’re anxious. You can ask us to go slower. You can ask us to stop and take a breath. None of it is unusual and none of it is a problem.

FAQs

A few seconds per section. Hard wax and a fast therapist make it very manageable, and it gets easier every time.

No. Just grow it out two to three weeks first.
