5 Best Coffee Spots in Ungasan – All Within Walking Distance of Rika
We’re at Jl. Raya Uluwatu No. 75X, Ungasan — on the main road, directly in front of Tarabelle. Which is a very lucky address, because the two hundred metres either side of our front door contain some of the best coffee on the Bukit.
That matters more than it sounds. The hour after a treatment does a lot of the work. Get straight back on a scooter into the heat and you undo half of it; walk somewhere shaded, sit down, and let your shoulders stay where the therapist just put them, and you carry it through the rest of the day.
So here are five places to walk to, in order of how far you have to go. Walking times are from our door.
1. Tarabelle — 30 seconds, directly opposite
Look up, cross carefully, you’re there. Tarabelle is the landmark most people use to find us — “the spa in front of Tarabelle” is how half our bookings get described on the phone.
It’s the busiest café on this stretch for good reason: a big all-day menu, proper coffee, pasta people come back for, and an outdoor playground and kids club. That last part makes it the obvious move if you’re travelling with children — park the family here, come over for a massage, collect them an hour later.
Open 7am–10pm daily. Before 9am on weekends or expect a wait.
2. Artisan Ungasan — 1 minute, 50 metres up the road
Practically next door, and the polished option. Mediterranean and Italian, a bakery counter, cocktails after dark, and a coffee program that holds up.
This is where your post-treatment coffee turns into lunch without you having to move again. There’s air-conditioned seating as well as open-air, which matters at one in the afternoon.
Open 7:30am–10:30pm.
3. Karsa Coffee — 4 minutes, Jl. Pura Masuka
Turn right out of our door and it’s a short stroll. Karsa is proper specialty coffee: filter and pour-over done carefully, local beans, a barista who’ll talk you through what’s on today. Small, unfussy, wifi, a few tables.
It’s the pick when you care more about what’s in the cup than what’s on the walls — and it’s quiet enough to sit in for an hour after a facial, when the last thing you want is a busy room.
4. The Den — 8 minutes, Jl. Toya Ning II
A little further south and off the main road. The Den is newer, smaller and quietly one of the highest-rated coffee shops in the area.
Neighbourhood spot rather than destination: good espresso, good matcha, no queue, shaded. The walk itself is pleasant once you’re off Jl. Raya Uluwatu and into the back lanes.
Open 7am–10pm.
5. Celsius Coffee — 10 minutes, Toya Ning
Worth the extra few minutes. Celsius sits in the greenery with outdoor seating and warm lighting, and the menu goes well past coffee — the creamy rice gets mentioned in review after review, and the flat white has a genuine local following.
It runs late, which makes it the one to aim for if you’ve booked an evening slot with us. Treatment at five, walk down at half six, stay till eight.
Honourable Mentions, Heading North
If you turn left out of our door instead:
Winter Cafe (No. 68, ~10 min) — cosy, consistent cappuccino, cheesecake worth ordering.
Easy Cafe (No. 88, ~7 min) — generous portions, Russian and European menu, always busy.
Sévigné Cookies & Coffee (~15 min) — further, and the cookies justify it.
The Order That Works
Treatment first, coffee second. Every time.
Book the late-morning slot, come out around one when the sun is at its worst, and walk to whichever of these has shade in the direction you’re facing. You’ll be loose, slightly floaty and in no hurry — which is exactly the right condition in which to sit down with a flat white and not check your phone.
If you’re doing a longer spa package with a scrub and a shower, allow two hours with us and then keep the afternoon completely empty. That’s the whole plan. There isn’t a second half.
And if you’re new to the road: we’re the open-fronted place with all the plants, opposite Tarabelle, 9am to 9pm every day. Walk in if we’re quiet — mornings usually are.
